STANDARDS FOR MEMBERSHIP

To qualify for and maintain membership in the Better Business Bureau serving West Central Ohio, Inc., a firm must: 

  1. Be in business for a minimum of one year unless the firm meets all other Requirements of Bureau Membership and:
    a.The principals are well known to the Bureau because of Community Reputation or other business in which they are, or have been involved
    b.The principals previously operated a firm with a satisfactory record in this Bureau's Service Area
    c.The firm is a branch of an existing member company
    d. The business has moved from or is an expansion of a firm in another Bureau city where it was, or is a member in good standing of the BBB.
  2. (The Bureau may, at its discretion, extend the minimum time in business requirements to a period greater than one year if, in its opinion, such additional time is required for a proper evaluation of the applicant firm.) 

  3. Sign the membership agreement and pay the appropriate dues and fees as set by the BBB.

  4. Supply background information about the company, its principals, or other information deemed essential to the Bureau's responsibility to provide inquiries with factual reports, which bear on the reliability of the business.

  5. Cooperate with the Bureau's efforts to promote voluntary self regulation within the business community.

  6. Respond promptly and in a businesslike manner to all complaints presented by the Bureau and resolve all such complaints in accordance with generally accepted good business practices

  7. Eliminate the cause of patterns or trends of complaints, which the Bureau has called to its attention.

  8. Agree to, for unresolved complaints (a) binding arbitration under BBB rules of arbitration (Binding) if the consumer also agrees, or (b) pre commitment to a dispute settlement process through a provider other than the Bureau, and which the Bureau determines substantially complies with the Bureau's consumer dispute resolution criteria.

  9. Comply with any decisions rendered through Bureau or an alternative provider's binding arbitration programs, or make a good faith determination as to whether to adhere to any informal dispute settlement decisions. 

  10. Supply, upon request, evidence upon which any advertising or selling claim is based.

  11. Adhere to established Better Business Bureau standards of advertising and selling and to cooperate with the Bureau in matters relating thereto. 

  12. Be free from any evidence that the firm does not meet financial obligations. 

  13. Refrain from using the name or logo of the Better Business Bureau for commercial, sales or advertising purposes in any manner not specifically authorized in writing by the BBB. 

  14. Be free from any governmental action concerning the marketplace and its customers that demonstrates a significant failure of the company to support the principles and purposes of the Better Business Bureau. The BBB's Board must suspend a membership when an action is filed if the allegations suggest such a failure. 

  15. Fulfill all registration, licensing, and bonding requirements of applicable city, county, state, and federal agencies and authorities, provide license numbers upon application for BBB membership and provide periodic updates upon request of the Bureau. 

  16. Adhere to BBB standards as well as state, federal, and local laws and regulations. 

  17. Support the principles and purposes of the Better Business Bureau and not engage in any activity that reflects unfavorably on the Bureau and its members.
